- Full-Time Custodian: Currently seeking a professional full-time custodian, shifts may include evenings and weekends. Must have working knowledge of cleaning equipment, including floor buffer, janitorial supplies and safe handling procedures for cleaning products and chemicals. Custodians will perform some or all of the following: maintain restrooms and remove waste materials; dust furniture, walls, fixtures and equipment; sweep, scrub, mop, strip, wax and buff floors; maintain carpet and upholstered furniture by vacuum and extraction equipment, clean and/or wash walls, windows, vents, stairwells and perform other related duties, tasks and responsibilities as required or assigned. Move tables and chairs to help setup and breakdown rooms for meetings and events. Assist Science Center staff with preparations and breakdown for various events and exhibits. Must have the ability to lift 20-30 pounds and bend without restrictions. Candidate must have reliable transportation. Museum guests, including children, are a constant presence in the Science Center. All staff members are expected to behave in a polite and courteous demeanor when interacting with guests. The South Florida Science Center is a drug-free workplace, all candidates must pass a criminal background check and may be subject to drug screening. Part-time Guest Services Associate: Operate the Science Center’s front desk and provide excellent customer service experiences for guests that are conducive to repeat visitation, membership conversion, and positive word of mouth. Sell daily admission, memberships, and program tickets. Process credit cards and coupons, ring-up cash, and issue change while maintaining a cash drawer. Proactively and warmly welcome guests, offer guidance and respond to questions. Verify admission for re-entry to facility. Resolve general complaints from guests and members on site. The South Florida Science Center and Aquarium's internships offer hands-on experience in a fun and professional setting. Interns work throughout the building on a wide variety of projects and tasks including everything from science education to behind-the-scenes projects.
Our internship program is designed to provide college students and recent graduates with the opportunity to gain a realistic in-depth view of a career path. Please note that many of the internships offered within the organization do not pay; however, if a stipend is offered to students it will be noted. We do not offer housing stipends.
